Aggregators that ESE, Inc. uses to get its ESETOMES books into Libraries have been instrumental to the Company’s success in this segment it acknowledged today. Currently, five Aggregators have helped generate sales of 93 books to 83 Academic and Public Libraries. Chief amongst them has been Ingram Content Group and Baker & Taylor (B&T), a leading provider of books and services to public libraries nationwide. Per its website, Baker & Taylor supports 6,000 public library systems, representing 90 percent of all U.S. public libraries. To date, Ingram and B&T have combined to generate 78% of the sales of ESETOMES books to Libraries.
Cognizant Librarians use different sources to acquire books, ESE, Inc. incorporates Aggregators that are known to sell to Libraries. ESE, Inc.’s Library partners also include Amazon and its Expanded Distribution offering, Draft2Digital, StreetLib, Smashwords, and Brodart. These resources help ensure the Company’s ESETOMES books are easily discoverable by Librarians and gives them purchasing flexibility. Some Aggregators may require the use of an ISBN that they offer for a self-publisher to make their book(s) available to Libraries. This scenario can create a multiple ISBN situation for a single book, which for a time, was viewed as being potentially problematic for an Author. ESE, Inc. has found, however, that having multiple ISBNs for a single body of work hasn’t been a problem for its Library customers.
“For a self-publisher to be able to get their books into Libraries and to have success in the market, I fervently believe it’s incumbent their work(s) be where Libraries are most likely to purchase - even if this means having multiple ISBNs,” said ESE, Inc. CEO Eric Simmons.
